Kenny signs treaty despite referendum call

Signed?

Questions have again arisen over taoiseach Enda Kenny’s short-term memory. Kenny this morning signed the new fiscal compact treaty, leaving many commentators scratching their heads. Kenny this week, under advice from the Attorney General, said a referendum would be needed in order for the Irish people to ratify the rogue treaty.

‘He’ll just rub his signature out later,’ said a Finnish EU Intern when asked what happens if Ireland rejects it.

‘It’s an obedience exorcise,’ said foreign affairs guru, Larry Bird, who’s in Brussels to cover events. ‘It’s just a scandal that the Irish taxpayer pays for these non-events.’

The charade is set to further exasperate the Irish at home and abroad and throw into question Irish people’s ability to choose well at the ballot box.

‘No point waking up when it’s too late,’ continued Bird. ‘This year is the most important year in Irish history – if it wants to remain having one.’

Creighton Claptrap: opening exchanges

European cheerleader and B- Minister, Lucinda Creighton, has begun her own specific brand of educating the Irish public this morning by saying, ‘If we choose to tell the rest of the world that we’re not prepared to take steps that are necessary to stabilise our currency, [or] to show that we are committed to the future of the euro as our currency, it would send a very negative signal to investors and to people who we need in this country to create jobs. via Minister: ‘Difficult and undesirable situation’ if Ireland votes no · TheJournal.ie.

Irish or not? People to decide.

So, it’s going to come down to a referendum after all. The Government is to put the revised European Union fiscal compact treaty to a referendum, the Taoiseach told the Dáil this afternoon. via Referendum to be held on European fiscal compact – The Irish Times – Tue, Feb 28, 2012.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny had expected to sign the treaty this coming weekend, but after advice from the Attorney General, a vote is to be put to the Irish people. With all the major Irish political parties expected to back the treaty, it comes down to the Irish people to decide if they want outsiders running our affairs or our own incapable’s.

‘Put your house on it passing,’ said Barney Finn, despite the continuing slump in their value.

“If Kenny loses this, there will be a general election. He’s putting his reign on the line. He’s made the right decision though. It’s good to see democracy still at play somewhere in Europe,’ said Faye Ecoruin.

The First Word

It’s a ‘totally damned’ if we do – ‘not quite so damned’ if we don’t scenario. Either way it’s not going to be pretty as the arguments for and against commence. Who’s going to tell it how it is and who’s going to lie? Who’s going to practice fear-mongering and who’s Irish?  Who’s going to interfere from the outside and who’s going to tell them to ‘feck off?’

It’s the last throw of the dice for Irish.
